The Poodle Club of America Foundation is truly excited to again sponsor the Performance Fundraiser during its National Specialty Agility and Obedience trials, held in Salisbury, Maryland on April 21, 22, 2008. Last year’s Fundraiser brought in approximately $5,000, money which went directly to the Foundation to support its programs.
In 2007 The Foundation sponsored free echo cardiogram tests at our National Poodle Show. Normally the test would cost $500-600. Veterinarians from Texas A&M University were at PCA, and Poodles from all over the country participated in the University's research project studying heart defects. None of the dogs who participated showed any symptoms of heart disease. Of the 250 dogs tested, ten were diagnosed with a serious problem, one reguiring surgery. Most importantly, without the free testing, heart and other health issues might not have been diagnosed until they had advanced beyound effective treatment. Thanks to the Foundation, and the Fundraiser's generous supporters, every Poodle who participated has a better quality of life. The Foundation also contributes to the Rabies Challenge Fund, supporting a study on the effectiveness of rabies, at the University of Wisconsin.
In addition, The Foundation offers an annual educational seminar in conjunction with the Poodle Club of America National Specialty Show and Trials every June. The Foundation extends its educational efforts by producing and selling videotapes on topics of interest to all who love their dogs."
